State of the Hanger: My model collection as 2016 comes to a close

To wrap up 2016 I want to take few minutes and share some details about my plamo/hobby collection, which is predominantly Gunpla based. I've had quite a few folks ask me for info about my collection, and display set up, but have been lacking any single place to point them. Before I start I'd like to thank all of the builders out there who whose simple and complex works have pushed my builds further and driven the Layman's Gunpla Guide. In particular I'd like to thank those on r/Gunpla and (the now renamed) Gundam Complex on Facebook. Of course a shoutout to the place I'm most guilty about being absent from, Gundam Australia. Over all, the Gunpla and plamo communities are some of the best hobby groups out there.

Display Setup

The hanger is probably the longest work-in-progress project I have. Starting nearly 8 years ago with a basic Staples book shelf, it's grown with my collection into a total of 14 separate bookshelves. Aside from one, an old model Ikea stopped producing years ago, all the cases are from Ikea's Billy line. The glass doors are Morliden, with some black weather seal to keep out as much dust as possible, and various types of Ikea LED lighting. All the lights are on Z-Wave switches which I can turn on all at once via Amazon's Echo. The four bookcases on the back wall are extra deep, which sadly I don't believe Ikea makes anymore.

For more detailed information on the setup see my older posts, Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. Unfortunately I don't think many of the specific Ikea details are valid today. There are also quite a few photos in those posts. For me, at least, it's interesting to see how much has and hasn't changed.

Photos

Getting photos of this room is a pain in the ass. In part because there are complicated sight lines everywhere. In part because the lighting tends to result in certain areas over exposed as the expense of others being under. And, probably mostly, due to my inexperience with capturing this sort of environment.

Kit Inventory

Here's a listing for those flipping through the images who are curious about the kits. Where applicable I linked to a build page or image gallery for the kit. Hopefully I've gotten everything (I've left out the stuff in boxes, please ask below if you have any questions about them). In total, I have roughly 120 kits (mostly Gunpla) in various stages of being built, from WIP to fully painted, with over 30 still boxed. All but a handful are on display in this one room. Everything in a box is either unbuilt, in the process of being built, or will remain as is. Everything is from Bandai unless otherwise noted.
