Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen - Episode 19 Review

Episode 19, "Grudge! The Longest Day at Kurogane House: Part 1"

*****SPOILERS*****

Synopsis: Dr. Hell has identified Tsubasa as a major threat to his plans, and dispatches Viscount Pygman to remove her. Pygman summons the ghost of Tetsuya Tsurugi, a pilot who worked with the Bardos research time piloting Kenzo's prototype robot. Kouji consults Baron Ashura, who is being hunted by his former allies, in helping Tsubasa. Pygman arrives at the Kurogane House as a hologram and a robot appears that looks very much like Mazinger Z. It's called Energer Z, and it's piloted by Kenzo Kabuto.

Comments:

Huh, all right. I was sort of expecting to see a continuation of last week's image from the dying Kedora, but they sort of moved past that, even when they went back later in the episode. They went from Dr. Hell and Kenzo in the chamber where Ashura slept as seen in the last episode to the Kedora going crazy and Kenzo and Tetsuya coming to the rescue. This Tetsuya already annoys the hell out of me based on his retarded costume. Is that a cowboy hat? Ugh. Hard to take anyone seriously with a cowboy hat, that's a simple fact.

What the hell is with Tsubasa? I mean, I understand she's being haunted by this Tetsuya guy for some reason, but her personality is nearly impossibly inconsistent. Is she a smirking badass? Is she really fragile? Is she legitimately the mother of Kouji and Shiro? Was she always one way or did she become the badass later on? She was, after all, the one who caused the death of Stroheim, and she was rather pleased about it. But what happened to Kenzo?

I, for one, refuse to believe the guy piloting this Energer Z is really Kenzo Kabuto. For all I know, it could be another programmed Gamia Q hologram. Or something else entirely. But this fucker isn't Kouji's dad. If it actually ends up being him, I'll be pretty surprised, though annoyed that they would do this to him. And wait, if Dr. Hell already had access to Photon Power, why didn't he use it earlier? What a fucking imbecile.

Another question, why is Ashura helping out Tsubasa? Last time I looked, he/she had forsaken his/her past directly for the sake of Dr. Hell, and was even thanked for doing so by him. So why is he/she the enemy of that group now? Well, this is only just part one.

Also, Kouji continues to be the least interesting character in the entire show. The old woman who zips around is expontentially more interesting.

Overall Score:

3 out of 5
