Macross Frontier - Breathing new life to the universe

Four weeks ago began the regular airing of the newest title to bear the Macross, Macross Frontier. Set in the same universe, sometime after the events of Macross Seven. Frontier follows a fleet of colonists traveling through space (one of many exploring outward from Earth and Eden), passing [apparently] too close to the galactic core. Here they encounter a new race of enemies, the Vajra, where little knowledge of them exists. The series focuses on the life of three main characters, Saotome Alto (average male lead), Ranka Lee (petite female lead who is 1/4th Zentradi) and Sheryl Nome (sexy figured female lead). For the most part Saotome Alto is your average VF pilot, joining the fight after another set of rare circumstances.

Gurren Lagann licensed by Bandai Entertainment

From Anime News Network:

The North American distributor Bandai Entertainment has announced at its New York Comic Con 2008 panel at 17:43 on Friday that it has licensed Hiroyuki Imaishi and Gainax's Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann robot anime series. Another distributor, ADV Films, had announced at Anime Expo 2007 in July that it had licensed this series. However, ADV Films then removed this series and many others from its catalog in January, and did not restore Gurren Lagann's place in its catalog when the other titles returned in February.

The story begins on a future Earth where people are forced to live in isolated underground villages. One boy uncovers a key to a robot, and the resulting adventures put him in the battles waging on the surface and lead him to the secrets behind humanity's new existence.

Gundam SEED Was Never Good Part II: Coordinators Suck Ass

Another thing occured to me as I thought about how bad the CE era programs of Gundam were. Despite being the targets of discrimination and possible genoicide, Coordinators are utterly unsympathetic.

Think about what a Coordinator is. No, let's think about what it is not. It isn't the same as a Newytpe. You can't MAKE a Newtype. Best you can do is an artificial Newtype ("Cyber-Newtype"), and they're usually unstable fuckwits like Four Murasame or Rosamia Badam. No, you can't make a Newtype. Newtypes are supposed to be the natural evolution of mankind. Coordinators may have increased spatial awareness at times, but they aren't the progression of mankind's evolution.

Jott for BlackBerry: Quick Review

Recently Jott, best known for their general voice-to-text translation services expanded further into the mobile market with Jott for BlackBerry. The premise is pretty simple, after signing up and installing the application to your BlackBerry you can dictate email replies straight from your mailbox. Unfortunately those of you who haven't upgraded or purchased a new BlackBerry in a while will not be able to mess around with this feature. It's only available on the Curve (8300), Perl (8100) and 8800. Simple Jott is very simple to use. To reply to an email you just have to choose one out of your inbox and select either "Reply with Jott" or "Reply all with Jott" after hitting the BlackBerry key. From there a voice prompts you with the commands to start dictating and when to send your message. Voice prompts and speaker phone are enabled by default, which is really nice.

Digg: What I Learned

Today, the social news site Digg was down for quite some time. Without something to distract me from everyday work all was almost lost... if not for some alternativewebsite suggestions by Digg staff members. These suggestions were pretty straight forward, featuring great time killers like xkcd and Atom Films. Others, however, were able to shine a light on the inside of Kevin Rose's fellow employees...

Megacon 2008 Report

So I went to Megacon this year for three days of fun and excitement. Though not all was fun and excitement. Now, I've been to different sorts of conventions before. Some were huge (Otakon), and some were small (MTAC). With that said, my impression of Megacon was more of a middle-con. It took place it a fairly big size area convention center, and housed a large populace, especially on Saturday. The dealers room was actually pretty massive though, but as far as events went, I found myself bored more often than not. Hell, I left at six o'clock...on a SATURDAY. Isn't Saturday night when everything cool is supposed to happen? On Friday we got there at 11-ish, and we were in what was thought to be the second panel of the day, but in reality no panels actually happened until 1pm? What a joke. I'm not trying to convey that I didn't have fun.
