Otaku Evolution Episode 243 - Why the DBZ Dub Sucks

Dragon Ball Z has one of those dubs that's extremely popular despite it being such an affront to the original material. Why is that, I wonder? I'm guessing it's mostly nostalgia. The same people who rave about how you have to watch DBZ dubbed are the ones who rant when there's a slight translation difference in any other anime. Hypocrites, in other words. If a company did today to an anime what Funimation did to DBZ decades ago, there would be a huge controversy over it, and you know it.

Otaku Evolution Episode 170 - Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure

I thought I'd get back to the "storyline", or bookend material, this month, because the videos are pretty short. I know you probably just skip to the review portion (I'm glad anyone even bothers with that much), but I like doing this sort of thing now and then, because it allows me to play with more sprites. I love playing with my (and Rob's) sprites!

I have toyed with ideas I mentioned here about a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fanfic, but I feel like I'm getting a little too old to be writing anime fanfics. And yeah, I was going to do a separate video series, aside from Otaku Evolution, on the DC animated films that come out straight to DVD/Blu-Ray. I had a lot of things ready for it, too, like a rating system for each feature. I somehow just never got to it. Should I still do it? Eh.

Also, Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure, folks. It's a Dragon Ball movie. With Arale in it!

Otaku Evolution Episode 142 - Dragon Ball: Sleeping Princess in the Devil's Castle

It's the start of another Dragon Ball Month here on Otaku Evolution, which means padding the videos with my dumb pixel character pieces. This time, I thought I'd dive a little into the ordinary life of pixel-me, but obviously he's luckier with women than I am, because nobody, ever, in their right mind, would want me to destroy them, sexually or otherwise. Yeah, when women see me, they normally destroy themselves right there to get out of talking to me.

On the bright side, the Dragon Ball movie I'm reviewing, Sleeping Princess in the Devil's Castle, is a charmingly weird short tale with a wonderful aesthetic. You don't really get that kind of quality atmosphere in the more recent Dragon Ball entries, with rich environments and an adventurous, but tense mood. I miss that.

Otaku Evolution Episode 118 - Mid Year English Dub Review IV

Ah, the middle of the year (was over a month ago!). A great time to go over the English dubs of anime I've covered thus far in 2018, so I don't have to cover a year's worth at the end of the year. This is also an opportunity to talk about the myriad of different ADR studios, specific dubs, and voice actors encountered in these videos.

And hey, only a pre-title bit, no after-credits bit! I'm actually going to retire those things until late October. It's been taking me two or three weeks to do videos that should only take a single week, maybe a week and half, to finish, these days. I do love my leftover detritus from my old sprite comic, but I need to concentrate on the actual REVIEW part of each review video.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2018) Trailer

Just know that I personally think less of anyone who's excited to give BROLY another chance after three shitty movies. People getting hyped for the return of this black hole of a character concept strips away much of the regard I had left for humanity.

Otaku Evolution Episode 117 - Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan

My final entry in this year's Dragon Ball Month is the eighth Dragon Ball Z movie, that one with the mountain of muscles who dumb people seem to enjoy. Seriously, Broly is a complete waste, because he's not even really a character. He's such a two(at best)-dimensional villain, and yet they give him this back story to try to get us to sympathize, or at least understand. Sorry, but that only works for characters with personalities. With Broly, it's just a lot of wasted potential. Granted, at least they tried, but maybe they should have shifted that effort into giving him something that defines his role, aside from a lot of screaming, and cry-induced insanity. Sure, most DBZ movie villains are shallow, even in the better movies, but this is a case of aiming high and falling low.

Otaku Evolution Episode 115 - Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies

Yikes, this one's pretty short. Introducing Dragon Ball Month on Otaku Evolution, where I comb through some of the movies and try to find the spirit of the source material in the midst of "original" stories. Here I start with the first Dragon Ball movie, Curse of the Blood Rubies, and you'll understand why the video's short, because the movie is less than an hour long. So I padded it with that wonderful book end storyline nonsense that nobody appreciates but me. There's still a review in there, though, it's not just a summary with quips.

For the most part, anyway.
